Do you need an international driving permit in Georgia
Which licences work for renting, when an international permit helps, and why you need the physical card.
In short: tourists can usually drive on their national licence, with a few nuances.
Which licences work
- Usually you can drive in Georgia on your national licence — for example from the EU, the UK, Russia, Ukraine or Kazakhstan.
- An international driving permit is not always required but helps if your licence is not in Latin script or has an unusual format.
- If your licence comes from a country whose document is not recognised, a notarised translation may be needed.
Bring the physical card
Bring your plastic licence — a digital copy on your phone won't do. Under the rental contract, driving without the physical licence (or the translation, where needed) is fined.
Besides the licence
To rent you need a passport and a licence; the driver must be 21+ with 2 years of experience. Not sure your licence works? Send us a photo on WhatsApp and we'll tell you.
