The road from Tbilisi to the sea is about 370 km along the country's main highway — roughly 5 to 6 hours without stops. It is easy to split into two days or drive with stops.
Route and stops
- Mtskheta — the ancient capital, half an hour from Tbilisi.
- Gori and Uplistsikhe — a cave town near Gori.
- Borjomi — a short detour to the famous spa town and park.
- Kutaisi — halfway, a good place to spend the night.
- Then the highway runs to the coast and through Kobuleti to Batumi.
One way
You don't have to drive back to Tbilisi: leave the car in Batumi. Choose the return place when booking — the price shows in the form, or the manager names it.
Good to know
- There are many speed cameras on the highway. Going above 130 km/h (by GPS) carries a separate fine under the contract.
- In summer Batumi and the coast can get busy — allow extra time.
