Canyons and caves around Kutaisi
Prometheus Cave, Martvili and Okatse canyons, Gelati Monastery — all within an hour of Kutaisi and its airport.
Kutaisi is a handy base for Imereti and Samegrelo. Many sights are within an hour, easy to see in a day or two.
What to see
- Gelati Monastery — close to the city, a UNESCO site.
- Sataplia — a reserve with dinosaur footprints and a cave, right next to Kutaisi.
- Prometheus Cave — one of Georgia's largest caves, about 20 km from the city.
- Martvili Canyon — turquoise water and boat rides.
- Okatse Canyon — a hanging walkway above the gorge, reached on foot from the entrance.

Sataplia and Prometheus Cave in the morning, Martvili or Okatse in the afternoon. Tickets are sold on site; in high season come early.
If you fly into Kutaisi
Get the car right at Kutaisi airport and start on day one. You can return it in Kutaisi, Batumi or Tbilisi.
